Batzella Tâm Bolgheri Superiore får imponerande 93p av Robert Parker
Batzella Tâm Bolgheri Superiore årgång 2012 fick nyligen ett riktigt fin omdöme och hela 93p av Robert Parker och hans Wine Advocate. Hans beskrivning av vinet kan ni läsa om nedan och även en liten intressant reflektion över producentens spännande livsöde.
The Bolgheri Superiore Tâm opens to a masculine side with dark fruit aromas of prune, plum and blackberry followed by spice, leather, tar and tobacco. This is a dark and penetrating wine with a silky texture and very long persistency. In fact, the wine’s mouthfeel is its most interesting feature. It stands out for the smooth management of the tannins. Tâm is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Cabernet Franc aged in both barrique and tonneaux for 24 months.
On this last trip to Bolgheri, I had the chance to know Khanh Nguyen who runs this estate with her husband Franco Batzella. She has an amazing life story and I thought I’d share just a tiny part here. She was born in Vietnam but eventually moved to the United States to work for the World Bank. That’s where she met her Italianborn husband. During the difficult late 1960s, she protested in opposition to troop escalation and the War in Vietnam. Given her unique situation as a Vietnamese immigrant living and working in the United States, she immediately flagged the intelligence and secret service authorities of both warring nations. For years, she was left in an awkward noman’s land with travel restrictions and other hindrances by both the Unites States and Vietnam. Wine would become an escape and a solution because the couple went to France to study winemaking in Bordeaux and later at Davis (California). She now travels freely and returns to her native Vietnam on a regular basis. That she makes Tuscany her home, makes perfect sense to me.
Här i Sverige finns vinet sedan några år tillbaka i systembolagets fasta sortiment och det är verkligen ett vin av yttersta klass.
